The Philippine Star Ball will be held on Saturday February 13 in Makati City, Manila. There are a number of dancers from Hawai'i who will be attending this event - Lucas Jaime, Yanna Samkova, Paul and Marie Laderta, Nancy Luckie, Ivan John, David Easa, Maria Handl among others.
This event is a one day affair and has received international accolades for its organization and hospitality. The organizer is Michaela Puno on behalf of the Council of United Professional Dance Teachers of the Philippines in cooperation with the Department of Tourism Republic of the Philippines and the First Gentleman Foundation Inc. Michaela is a Pro/Am student from Baltimore, Maryland and usually performs with her teacher Slava Sergiev.
In 2009 the event ran until 3:00 am and this year the organizer has had to cut many of the previous events including the Pro/Am Freestyles. However there will be a Pro/Am Scholarship event which is open to all ages and is unisex. Competing and representing Hawai'i will be Dr. Paul Laderta in the Latin division dancing with Professional Yanna Samkova. Good Luck Paul and remember to walk onto the floor with the attitude "I am here representing Hawai'i and look who is with me!
