Blog Updates

I received the following email message from Michaela Puno who is the Organizer for the Philippine Star Ball: -

“I received a text saying that there are rumors that there would be NO Philippine Star Ball.
Not true!!
The 4th Philippine Star Ball is scheduled for February 12, 2011! It will still be at the 5- star prestigious Makati Shangri-la Hotel.
Please include us in your calendar. It promises to remain a memorable event for competitors, adjudicators, and spectators.
Warm regards,

Following The Millennium Dance Sport Championships (see David Easa’s excellent article prior to this blog) Lucas Jaime and Yanna Samkova flew to Prague to visit with Yana’s family. They should be back in Honolulu sometime next week.

On Monday July 12 I had my Right Knee Total Replacement Surgery at Kaiser Permanente Hospital. I was discharged on Friday July 16. So now on to 5 – 6 weeks of therapy, pain killers, learning how to walk again! I just hope that it will be as successful as the Left Knee Surgery which was done last December. Mahalo to all of my students and friends, who visited, sent flowers, food and Good Wishes. If anyone needs to call me please use my mobile number (808) 371-8042 (at this time it is difficult for me to struggle over to the house phone).

This past weekend was the popular Desert Classic Dance Sport Championship organized by Igor and Irina Suvorov at the Desert Springs Marriott Resort and Spa, Desert Springs, CA July 7 – 10.

Competing were Anne Ho and Glenn Okazaki in the Masters Amateur International Standard (Over-50) Championship. Out of the 15 couples entered they finished in 2nd place. Interesting to note that there were a total of 36 First Places (9 Judges x 4 dances) and Ann and Glenn took 9 of these First Places.
Maria Handl also competed.
With Lucas Jaime being in Prague two teachers were arranged to dance with Maria. This was apparently arranged by Ms Yolanda Varga who is a prominent On-Deck Captain at many major events on the Mainland. Maria flew to the Mainland a couple of days before the event to practice 46 Standard and Smooth dances with Professional John Selby. She also danced a total of 43 Rhythm and Latin dances with Professional Tyler-Ryan Allen.
Maria is becoming quite a Pro/Am traveling competitor. Well done Maria.

Advance notice of Christopher Bayot’s Showtime 2010. This event will be held at the Pacific Beach Hotel – Grand Ballroom on Friday August 20th at 6 pm. For Dinner, Dancing, and Show tickets ($65) call Christopher at Keep On Dancing (808) 596-8860.
