Heel Pivots, Heel Pulls and Heel Turns

 All Heel Pivots, Heel Pulls and Heel Turns are in the Bronze Level Syllabus.

Heel Pivots are used in Quickstep
Heel Pulls are used in Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango and Quickstep
Heel Turns are used in Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep

Only the Man dances a Heel Pivot and it always turns to the left. The feet close on the second step but there is no change of weight.
  • In the Quickstep it is usually used after Quarter Turn to Right, Natural Spin Turn, Chasse Reverse Turn.

Only the Man dances a Heel Pull and it always turns to the right. The feet do not close on the second step and there is a change of weight.
  • In the Waltz it is part of the Hesitation Change.
  • In the Foxtrot it is the second half of the Natural Turn. Steps 7- 9 of the Reverse Wave. It can precede the Hover Feather.
  • In the Tango the last two steps of the Chase are often considered a Heel Pull.
  • In the Quickstep it is the last three steps of the Natural Turn. The Natural Turn with Hesitation. It can precede the Rumba Cross. 

Man and Lady dance Heels Turns and they can be turned to the left or right. The feet do close on the second step and there is a change of weight.
·        In the Waltz the Lady in the Open and Closed Telemark and the Double Reverse Spin dances it. The Man dances it in the Closed and Open Impetus.
·        In the Foxtrot it is danced by the Lady in Reverse and Natural Turns, Natural Weave, Reverse Wave. The Man dances it in the Closed and Open Impetus.
·        In Quickstep the Lady dances a Heel Turn in the Running Right Turn, Closed Telemark, Double Reverse Spin, Zig Zag. The Man dances a Heel Turn in the Closed Impetus.
