COMPETING DANCERS FROM HAWAI'I Part III

The last two sessions of the USA Dance Southwest Regional National Qualifying Events were held on Saturday February 2nd 2013.

The following results of the 6 couples representing Hawai‘i were obtained from the score sheets published on their website.

(Note: - Senior I = 35+ years;  Senior II = 45+ years;  Senior III = 55+ years)

Senior II Standard (Ballroom) Championship

Seven (7) couples danced a Final in Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Slow Foxtrot, and Quickstep.

Glenn Okazaki and Anne Ho won this event by placing 1^st in all five dances. Out of a total of 25 1^st places available (5 Judges times 5 Dances) they received: - 17 First places, 7 Second places, and 1 Third place.

Calvin and Debra Ota placed 7^th in this event. One Judge gave them a 5^th place in Waltz and another Judge gave them a 6^th place in Tango.

Senior III Standard (Ballroom) Championship

Three (3) couples danced in this 5-dance event. Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Slow Foxtrot, Quickstep

Calvin and Debra Ota finished in 3^rd place with one Judge giving them a 2^nd in Waltz.

Senior I Standard (Ballroom) Novice

Six (6) couples competed in this three-dance event – Waltz, Slow Foxtrot, and Quickstep.

Ivan John and Nancy Luckie was 3^rd in this event placing 2^nd in Waltz, 4^th in Foxtrot, and 3^rd in Quickstep.

Out of a total of 15 1^st places (5 Judges times 3 Dances) they received a total of 5 Firsts, 1 Second, 4 Thirds, 4 Fourths and 1 Fifth.

Miguel Heraclio and Rieko Ota finished in 4^th place by being 4^th in Waltz, 3^rd in Foxtrot, and 4^th in Quickstep.

They received 0 Firsts, 2 Seconds, 8 Thirds, 4 Fourths, and 1 Fifth.

Senior II Standard (Ballroom) Novice

Seven (7) couples competed in this 3-dance event – Waltz Slow Foxtrot, and Quickstep

Ivan John and Nancy Luckie was 2nd in this event placing 1^st in Waltz, 2^nd in Foxtrot, and 2nd in Quickstep.

Out of a total of 15 1^st places (5 Judges times 3 Dances) they received a total of 7 Firsts, 3 Seconds, 3 Thirds, 2 Fourths.

Miguel Heraclio and Rieko Ota finished in 3rd place by being 3rd in all three dances.

They received 0 Firsts, 6 Seconds, and 9 Thirds.

Senior II Standard (Ballroom) Bronze

Two couples competed in this 2-dance event – Waltz and Quickstep

Michael and Lorrie Chun (dancing their first USA Dance Regional Event) tied for 1^st place by winning the Waltz and taking 2^nd in the Quickstep. The other couple was, of course, 2^nd in the Waltz and 1^st in the Quickstep. This resulted in the tie which could not be broken by Rule 11. Both couples received a total of 5 First Places and 5 Second Places.

Senior III Standard (Ballroom) Bronze

Only one (1) couple danced in this 2-dance event of Waltz and Quickstep

Michael and Lorrie Chun won this uncontested event by being awarded 1^st place in both dances by all 5 judges.

Senior II  Latin Bronze

Three (3) couples competed in this 2-dance event – Cha Cha and Rumba

Michael and Lorrie Chun placed 3^rd in this event but one Judge gave them a 2^nd place in Cha Cha.

Senior III  Latin Bronze

Four (4) couples competed in this 2-dance event – Cha Cha and Rumba

Michael and Lorrie Chun finished in 4^th place, They were placed 3^rd in Cha Cha and 4^th in Rumba and another couple took 4^th in Cha Cha and 3^rd in Rumba with tied them into 3^rd place. Rule 11 was able to break the tie in favor of the other couple.

Senior I Latin Championship

Six (6) couples contested this event in 5 dances – Samba, Cha Cha, Rumba, Paso Doble, and Jive

Edwin and Charlotte Bugarin (dancing their first USA Dance Regional Event) finished in 4^th position by placing 4^th in all five dances. One judge gave them a 1^st in Jive; 2 Judges gave them a 2^nd in Cha Cha.

Senior II Latin Championship

Four (4) couples competed in this 5-dance Event – Samba, Cha Cha, Rumba, Paso Doble, and Jive

Edwin and Charlotte Bugarin won this event by placing 1^st in all five dances. Out of a total of 25 1^st place marks (5 Judges times 5 Dances) they received 16 Firsts and 9 Seconds

Calvin and Debra Ota finished in 4^th place by being 4^th in all five dances. One Judge gave them a 3^rd in Rumba.

Senior III Latin Championship

Two (2) couples competed in this 5-dance event – Samba, Cha Cha, Rumba, Paso Doble, and Jive

Calvin and Debra Ota placed 2^nd in all five dances. One Judge gave them a 1^st in Paso Doble.
