Thursday night at the Empress Ballroom,
Winter Garden was mostly about the amateur dancers, first came the newest and
most interesting feature added this year, the Pro/Am Invitational Show Dance. 9
students and their respective professional teachers performed for us a 2-minute
routine. Featured from the USA and tearing down the house with a standing
ovation was Josie Lee with Professional Tomas Lewandowski. Another standing
ovation was given to Maeda Akira with Professional Hidemi Yamamoto from Japan
and special mention to Marina Dzaskhova-Glock with Professional Ivan
Statsenko from Russia and Mish Liang Hsu with Professional Lukas Chockuba
(Taiwan).
It is interesting to see how Pro/Am
dancing, that originally had its start in the USA, has slowly crept up to other
countries and is now being promoted worldwide including here at Blackpool
during the Open To The World British Open Championships.
