The British Open Senior (Over 35’s) Amateur
Ballroom
Only 1 US couple had made it to the
finals of the British Open Senior (over 35’s) Amateur Ballroom Championships
and that was David & Liva Wright . David & Liva went on to place 2nd
overall, the best ever finish for a US couple in this division. It was a very
mixed bag in regards to judging scores – David & Liva placed 4th
in Waltz, 6th in Foxtrot, 2nd in Tango, and 1st
in Quickstep to take their 2nd place overall.
Two other US couples made the semifinal
they were Xingmin & Katerina Lu and Andreas & Jodie Meijer.
The British Professional Rising Stars
Latin
The other event of the night was the Rising
Star Professional Latin where the US had 3 couples in the semifinal. The
winners were never really in doubt as last year’s amateur Latin champions, Neil
Jones & Ekaterina Sokolova from England were on the floor as professionals
and traditionally in this circumstance at Blackpool past amateur champions have
an overwhelming advantage. So not surprisingly they won all dances. 2nd in all
dances were Manuel Favilla & Natalia Maidiuk (Ukraine). Many in the US may
remember Manuel from his time in New York. This new partnership got quite a lot
of buzz from the audience. England also took the 3rd position in Gunnar
Gunnarrson & Marika Doshoris, 3rd in all dances.
