Hawai'i Star Ball Update

Aloha
I am happy to announce that the Hawai'i Star Ball will be run again in 2014 at the Sheraton Waikiki, Honolulu September 23 - 26, 2014. The new organizer will be Mr. David Alvarez, of the Santa Barbara Dance Center and CEO of Dance Junkie Productions Inc. Who is David Alvarez? Check below for his bio.
Geoffrey Fells.

David Alvarez grew up with 9 older siblings in southern Texas. Dance was always a major part of their lives. By age 15, David was competing in his hometown as an amateur Spanish Cumbia dancer. At age 18, he entered the world of ballroom dancing, by beginning a teaching certification course with 19 other trainees. He was one of only two students to complete and pass the course. After 18 months of teaching in Texas, David moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where within 3 years he became the Top Teacher in the country in the Fred Astaire franchise, winning every award at the annual awards ceremonies. Eventually, David was hired via the telephone by an owner of the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Honolulu, Hawaii. There, he became the Top Teacher in the world in the Arthur Murray franchise. David really wasn’t striving to be a top salesperson. That was a natural result of his vivacious personality, love for dancing, and his joy in sharing it. It was the same then, as it is now… his students are continuously inspired, have a great time in their lessons, and their lives are enriched… sometimes transformed beyond measure.

Having gone to the top of his game in Hawaii, David therefore decided to open his own school of dance, and moved to Santa Barbara to accomplish this dream. In 1995, David realized his dream by opening “A Fascinating Rhythm” (now Santa Barbara Dance Center), and it eventually became one of Santa Barbara’s top dance studios.

Though David has competed professionally in numerous national dance competitions, his heart is really in teaching. He loves seeing his students develop, and loves competing with them in national Pro/Am competitions. David and his students frequently win Top Studio awards in various ballroom competitions around the country. During 2009, David held a position as one of the top ten teachers in the United States for that year, and in the student standings, one of his students held second place in the U.S. In 2009, 2010 and 2011, David won the First Place Top Teacher award in the Emerald Ball Dancesport Championships in Los Angeles. In August 2011, he took home the Top Teacher and Top Studio awards from the Nevada Star Ball in Las Vegas, and in 2012 Santa Barbara Dance Center took home the First Place Top Studio award from the Emerald Ball Dancesport Championships in Los Angeles.

In October of 2009, David Alvarez was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by Santa Barbara Dance Alliance. This is a prestigious annual award given for outstanding contributions to the field of dance within the Santa Barbara community.

Another outstanding achievement for David happened in October of 2009, when he moved Santa Barbara Dance Center from its small downtown location of 14 years, to a beautiful spacious location three blocks away. The studio’s new 4,500 square foot home on W. Canon Perdido Street offers a comfortable lobby, a ballroom-size studio, a smaller studio, and a Staff parking lot. Over the years, David has given numerous local dance teachers the opportunity to present their expertise at his school, and to excel in their teaching.
