Despite reports in local newspapers that part of the ceiling of the Empress Ballroom, the venue of the Blackpool Festivals, had collapsed, the Festivals are still OK. A concert was canceled. Festival Organizer, Sandra Wilson, Dance Festival Organizer sent the following: -
"In reply to your question regarding the Empress Ballroom ceiling, I can advise that whilst unfortunate, it was an isolated incident. The small pieces of plaster that fell down from the ceiling did give Leisure Parcs cause for concern and as a precaution and following discussion with the promoter and the band's manager, the decision was made to postpone the show until such point that the ceiling could be examined by structural engineers. The ceiling has now been inspected in its entirety and some minor repairs will be undertaken, to the affected area in the next few days to allow the Ballroom to reopen for the Magicians' Convention next week."
